Manufacturer's Description
The Breville VKJ142 Hot Cup offers boiling hot water at the touch of a button to deliver delicious hot drinks in an instant. Its patented design means you only boil one cup at a time saving time, money and energy.
Boiling water in an instant
The Breville Hot Cup is designed to boil a cup of water in a matter of seconds, meaning great hot drinks at the touch of a button. It dispenses a 250 millilitre (ml) cup of boiling water--the equivalent of a standard drinking mug--and will dispense up to five cups without refilling--perfect for families or small offices.
The innovative patented technology ensures that water is only dispensed once it has reached boiling point, not simply very warm, but 100 degrees Celsius, making perfect hot drinks every time. In addition, the smooth and continuous flow of water keeps any splashing to a minimum.
By only boiling enough water for the number of cups you need, the Hot Cup is economical and energy efficient. There's no boiled water going to waste and it helps you save pennies on electricity bills.
Easy to use and easy to clean
The Breville Hot Cup features a fast boil 3 kilowatt (kW) concealed element which delivers maximum efficiency and keeps the water tank easy to clean. The 1.5 litre (l) capacity water tank is also easy to fill thanks to its lid release button. Press the button down to open and then fill the water tank with fresh, cold water just like you would a kettle.
The extra-large rear water window helps you accurately fill the water tank and once filled, you can place the it back on the base facing any angle as it's 360 degree (°) rotational. This means you don't have to line it up in a certain place to function.
Illumination on boil gives a blue hue
When activated, the tank illuminates to give a stylish blue glow to your kitchen. This modern design makes the Hot Cup a sophisticated addition to your kitchen worktop. And it continues to look good even when not in use thanks to its gloss black finish with smart stainless steel trim.
Mess is kept to a minimum as the drip tray at the base of the unit collects all stray spillages. It's easily removable for cleaning and is dishwasher safe. Also doing its bit to help keep your kitchen workspace tidy is the cord storage. This coils loose and unused cord under the base of the unit so that it's not swamping your kitchen and taking up unwanted space and the base itself is non- slip so you don't have to worry about it slipping on your work surface.

Costumer Evaluations
We are substantially way more impressed with the hotcup than we expected to be. I couldn't truly see a have to have for it before it came but now I barely use my kettle at all as it really is so a lot quicker and simpler to use the hotcup.
It's highly nice to appear at and smaller than the average kettle. You fill it just like a kettle by lifting it off the base and popping up the lid. It hold 5 X 250ml "shots" of water.
It stays turned off till you require it, then you put a cup under the spout and press the button on prime and it begins to boil a shot of water. It is pretty loud correct at the end when it really is dispensing the water and a bit sputtering but you have a cupful of boiling water in 50 seconds. I use the time that it is boiling to be ready and waiting with my milk and spoon and it seriously is a quick cup of tea.
When reading other critiques I saw mention of a plasticky taste but I haven't noticed any distinction in taste to tea made in my kettle.
I assume we get on with it nicely specifically as we have fairly large mugs so the shot of water either fits v well or underfills. I've had no case of it overflowing while I can see that this would be a issue for some people today and the lack of control is a downside. I also wish it would have levels on the side illustrating how numerous cups of water are left in the tank.
It will not replace our kettle totally as I nonetheless use larger amounts of boiling water for cooking but it has been used for every single cup of tea given that we've had it.
All in all,we are genuinely impressed with the hotcup and it has speedily come to be a well-made use of appliance in our kitchen. Only difficulty is how considerably tea I am receiving via because it has arrived.
This item is fantastic. It won't replace a kettle for the reason that when associates are around you'll need the capacity to make multiple hot drinks simultaneously, which this won't do, but for energy conscious folks who only wish to heat adequate water to make one particular drink at a time... this is terrific.
The item is simple and the procedure is basic fill the reservoir with water (which has enough capacity for five mugs), flick the switch, and 35 seconds later... it produces one particular steaming hot mug of water...
...or bowl / jug / whatever you location under the spout... but... I wouldn't advise putting a cup or anything else compact the unit produces 250ml of scalding hot water (which is suitable for a regular sized mug) every time, no even more, and no much less. Consequently, if you use a cup, the odds are you will have to deal with the overspill but fortunately Breville included a 'beer pump style' drip tray that ought to cover this.
For me it is brilliant: I put the coffee in the mug, place it under the spout, flick the switch and carry on about my business enterprise, when I come back not only is the water hot, my mug's also poured (and in this respect it reminds me of the old 'Teasmaid' units there put to use to be, the only difference being this one particular starts manually, not through a timer).
I currently use a thermal kettle which keeps my unused boiled water hot, and do so for the sake of decreasing my power consumption, but I like this item because I only boil the amount of water I require to at the time I have to have to use it.
I have only two quibbles: the opening to pour water in could be a little wider to permit easier topping up it is narrow and oddly angled. Plus, adding the ability to vary the amount of water that gets boiled, even inside a set range, to enable for unique users' requires according to their cup/mug sizes, would be very valuable but neither of these quibbles are sufficient to diminish the rating this unit's worth.
It is most likely to be a bit of a luxury to obtain space on the kitchen worktop for both this unit and a kettle also, but if you do have the space, and you make solo mugs of hot drinks alot more than you make multiples, this is an remarkable item well worth taking into consideration.
