Costumer Critiques

Overall this kettle is working extremely well. It looks great, boils the water promptly and accurately, doesnt make too significantly noise and does not have a plastic interior that would taint the water

Firstly this evaluation is for the Cuisinart CPK17U sold in Europe (not the Cuisinart CPK17 sold in the USA) the most important distinction in between these two models is that the CPK17 has a "30-minute keep warm" where it boils the water and keeps on boiling it consistently for up to 1/two hour. The CPK17U sold in Europe just boils the water and then turns itself 'almost' off.

I say 'almost' off simply because like a great number of higher end kettles it does have a couple of blue LEDs (and an electronic thermometer) that stay on all the time unless you turn the kettle off at the wall. I could not find something in the instruction book or on the Cusinart website about standby energy consumption, but comparing with other kettles I would estimate the electrical energy cost at about 2.50 GBP per year (so if the kettle lasts 10 years call it 25 GBP)

The kettle does have an "Automatic Eco function" mode, I suspect this may possibly be advertising and marketing B.S. but when you select a precise temperature setting, the kettle will 'forget' this two minutes soon after the kettle has boiled, so some of the electronics do get turned off.

You can select a range of temperatures: 85 / 90 / 95 or 100 degrees - the 85 degree button is recommended for Green Tea and instant coffee, 100 degrees for black tea. It is also achievable to get a lower temperature by just watching the thermometer readout and turning the kettle off manually as soon as it reaches the desired temperature.

The built-in electronic thermometer is not spectacularly quickly or correct, I compared it with a ThermaPen and located it was reading 2 degrees above the actual temperature and takes about two seconds to respond to temperature modifications. When boiling the kettle these two factors cancel every single other out and the final water temperature is fairly significantly spot on, great adequate for producing a cup of tea with anyway. Temperatures are displayed in increments of 5 degrees.

When the kettle boils it bleeps 5 occasions, some individuals (or dogs) could find this annoying but I'm in most cases pouring the water out before it reaches the second beep. (Choosing up the kettle turns it off)

An unexpected side impact of this kettle is that simply because the blue LEDs look so cool everybody has taken to turning the kitchen lights off, whatever the standby power of the kettle is it is going to be an order of magnitude lower than all the room lighting. (This is one particular of those counter intuitive effects rather like those 'low-energy' light bulbs which give off such a cold light you have to crank up the central heating to compensate!)

This kettle is made in the PRC and the develop superior looks pretty very good, both the body and base are stainless steel, the manage has a stainless steel skin, the buttons are silver impact PVC. The region about the power connection (the centre of the base) is black plastic.

A metal kettle will generally weigh more than plastic, with out water or the base, this kettle weighs 1.1 Kg (compared to a plastic Boden kettle which is 650 grams) when filled with sufficient water for a substantial teapot that becomes 2.3 KG vs 1.85 Kg

The most important body does not have a double skin so the outside will come to be hot, I prefer this to double-skinned kettles that hold less water and so tend to be far more top rated heavy. The deal with always remains cool, also the level indicator is subsequent to the manage supplying extra insulation creating it unlikely that you will burn yourself.

The kettle is very easy to fill and heats water highly quick, pouring the water out is also pretty smooth and controllable, the shape of the kettle tapering towards the major seems to support with this.

Essential to replace my Russell Hobbs Stainless Steel Kettle, immediately after more than 30 years of loyal service.

Worked out that with inflation it would now cost at least a couple of hundred pounds!

Found a large choice of kettles on the market place, in between twenty and ninety pounds. Looked at a lot, to begin with on line then in shops. Discovered some were really flimsy, poorly completed, uncomfortable to handle, hard to fill, with lids I couldn't open readily and short flexes.

Cuisinart's model had none of these faults it had the longest guarantee (3 years) was solid, well-finished and stylish, with a blue light, handy temperature manage and water gauge.

I noted the criticisms other users have made. In practice I don't discover the brushed stainless steel, for both kettle and base, tough to clean. I actually like hearing the kettle boil, which it does rapidly, and guess any metal-bodied kettle boiling will be louder than a plastic a single.

I have had no challenges with it at all and am rather pleased with my buy. I currently have a Cuisinart chopper/grinder that is well produced and works well.
